Cricket's three formats and major tournaments

To succeed at cricket betting, the first step is understanding the differences between the three formats. T20 is the fastest and most unpredictable format — anything can happen within 20 overs, so odds change with every ball. For Bangladeshi fans, BPL and the T20 World Cup are the biggest events in this format.

ODI, or one-day matches, are played over fifty overs. Markets like top batsman, total runs and partnerships are more popular here. Although IPL is a T20 league, Bangladeshi cricket fans also bet heavily on the ODI World Cup.

Test cricket is a five-day match — a draw is a genuine outcome here, so there are three markets: Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. In Tests, batting averages, pitch conditions and weather all shape the way bets are placed.

Popular betting markets — what each one is about

Multiple markets are available for cricket at baji. Below are seven popular markets, each with a brief example.

Match Winner

Who wins the match — Team A or Team B? This is the simplest market. There is no draw in T20, so there are only two options.

Simplest bet

Toss Winner

Bet on the toss result before the match starts — will Team A or Team B win the toss? It is entirely unpredictable, so odds on both sides are roughly equal.

Quick result

Top Batsman

Who will score the most runs in an innings? Pick the highest scorer from the team. The result is not settled until the innings ends.

Long-running

Total Runs Over/Under

Will the total runs in an innings or the whole match be above or below a set number? Pitch and weather play a big role in this market.

Strategic betting

Top Bowler

Who will take the most wickets in a match? Understanding the type of bowling — pace or spin — and the nature of the pitch makes it easier to decide here.

Expert pick

Multi Bet

Multiple selections from multiple matches are combined and their odds multiplied. If all bets are correct the return is large, but if even one is wrong the entire bet is lost.

High return potential

Handicap and First Over Runs

In a handicap market, the weaker team is given an artificial head start — for example, if Team A is given 20 runs, Team B must win by 21 or more runs to win the market. In the first over runs market, you predict whether runs scored in the opening over will be above or below a set number — not an exact figure, just "more" or "less".

Learn to read odds — three formats

Cricket betting odds at baji appear in three formats: decimal, fractional and American. New bettors are often unsure which is which — so here is a straightforward example to explain each one.

Format Price for Team A to win Return on a ৳200 bet
Decimal 2.50 ৳500 (৳300 profit + ৳200 original stake)
Fractional 3/2 ৳500 (same result)
American +150 ৳500 (same result)

Example: if you place a ৳200 bet on Team A to win at decimal 2.50, fractional 3/2 or American +150 — all three represent the same odds. If Team A wins you get back ৳500 (৳300 profit and ৳200 original stake); if Team A loses you lose ৳200.

For the favourite: Team B's odds might be decimal 1.25, fractional 1/4, American -400. A negative American figure shows how much you need to bet to make ৳100 profit. A ৳200 bet returns ৳250, meaning only ৳50 profit — because Team B is the favourite.

Football and other sports — how they differ from cricket

baji sports betting across different sports

Cricket is the most popular sport in Bangladesh, but baji also offers betting on football, kabaddi and other sports. The main difference lies in the structure of the markets.

Football has three possible results — Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. This "1X2" structure gives three sets of odds. T20 and ODI cricket have no draw, so there are only two odds. Test cricket allows a draw, so the market works like football with three outcomes.

Football has separate halftime and fulltime markets, and goal scorer markets are also popular. Cricket has far more markets based on innings, overs and wickets — a single match can have dozens of open markets.

At baji, slots, live casino and card games can all be played from the same account. For the casino experience, visit the baji Casino page, which has both live dealer games and slots.

Live Betting

In-play betting — odds change with every wicket

Betting while a match is in progress is called live or in-play betting. In cricket this is especially significant because the momentum of the game can shift very quickly.

Say three wickets have fallen for the batting team in the 15th over — their odds to win the match will immediately lengthen (meaning they are now the underdog), while the bowling team's odds will shorten. Consider carefully which side to back at that moment.

Odds also shift at the end of each over. After a boundary or six they move in the batting team's favour; after a maiden over they move towards the bowling side. In-play betting requires the ability to make quick decisions — and remember, it is better to watch the situation and bet calmly than to rush into a decision.

Various mini-markets are available for in-play betting at baji — runs in the next over, who takes the next wicket, which over the powerplay ends in, and more. For easy betting on mobile, use the baji App, available on both Android and iOS.

Things to keep in mind for live betting

  • Odds shift fast when a wicket falls — read the situation before deciding
  • Powerplay and death-over markets behave differently
  • Understanding the relationship between run rate and odds is important
  • Set a budget in advance — avoid placing too many bets during live play

Multi bets and combined odds — understanding the maths

In a multi bet, selections from multiple matches are combined into a single bet. The odds of each selection are multiplied together, so the total odds can be very large — but if any one selection is wrong, the entire bet is lost.

Example: if three selections across three matches have decimal odds of 1.50, 1.80 and 1.90, the combined odds are 1.50 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 5.13 (approximately). A ৳100 bet returns ৳513 if all three are correct. But if even one of the three is wrong, you lose the full ৳100.

In a multi bet, the more selections you add, the lower the chance of winning — even though the potential return increases. Keeping it to two or three selections is safer for new bettors.

Multi bet example

Selection Decimal odds
Selection 1 1.50
Selection 2 1.80
Selection 3 1.90
Total odds ≈ 5.13
Return on a ৳100 bet ৳513 (if all are correct)

If even one is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.

A few things to do before you start betting

  • Understand the format first — T20, ODI and Test have different rules and different markets.
  • Set a separate budget for each session and stay within that limit.
  • Focus on one market — betting across too many markets at once leads to confusion.
  • Do not rush in live betting — avoid placing large bets on the spur of the moment.
  • Betting is entertainment — profit is not guaranteed, so only bet amounts you can afford to lose.
  • To learn more about responsible betting, read the responsible gaming guidelines.

Common questions and answers

In T20, a match ends in 20 overs, so odds shift quickly and the pace of play is much higher. In ODI, play spans 50 overs, giving more time to bet and more scope for innings-by-innings analysis. Toss winner and powerplay markets are more popular in T20, while top batsman and total runs markets are more commonly used in ODI.

A Test match has three possible outcomes: Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. If you bet on Team A to win and the match ends in a draw, you lose the bet. To win on a draw, you need to place a separate bet on the draw market.

Yes, the types of markets are broadly the same — match winner, toss, top batsman, over/under runs and so on are available across all leagues. However, international matches, especially T20 World Cup or other ICC events, generally have more markets and higher liquidity.

In in-play betting, odds are recalculated after every ball. When a wicket falls, the batting team's odds rise (reflecting their weaker position); after a boundary or six, the odds shorten. As the run rate closes in on the target, the batting team's odds drop quickly. These changes are automatic and happen in real time.

If a match is incomplete or abandoned, bets are generally voided and the original stake is refunded. However, in some markets a result may stand if a specified number of overs have been completed. These rules are set out in detail in baji's terms and conditions.
